Executive Director's Message for May, 2012
by Maria Martinucci
The Annual Higher Education Scholarship Luncheon held on April 19th was a truly rewarding event! A total of twenty students received scholarships, including one student who received the first Mike Wyman Memorial Scholarship from First National Bank in the amount of $2500. A huge thank you to everyone who helped sponsor scholarships and the event!
On April 11th, the Chamber’s Board of Directors held their annual board retreat. This event is held to identify goals, priorities and objectives to be achieved in the coming year.
The first presentation was from Scott Hauge of Small Business CA regarding a survey sent to small businesses throughout the state focusing on how businesses feel about the economy, economic outlook, knowledge of issues facing the business community, and assistance and services available to them. For more information, please contact Scott directly at Small Business California,

A major topic of discussion was the new website and how well has been received. The presentation by Rob Wood showed that our web site is getting an average of 250 hits per day, mostly at mid-day, leading to a discussion on how our members can capitalize on that fact! He talked about mobile devices, the phenomenal growth of smart phones in the U.S., and demonstrated how QR codes work with smart phones, and how they might be used for promoting member businesses.
We also discussed having members of the Board, and even members at large, submit articles for the website on topics relevant to their specific industry providing beneficial information to Chamber members and the community.
Future issues of the newsletter will keep you updated on all the exciting new ways the Chamber can support you in promoting YOUR business!
The Ambassador Committee of the Chamber will be busy in the next few months visiting new members. They will deliver along with the plaque, promotional items donated by our members. If you wish to donate your promotional material for this purpose, please call the Chamber at 650-588-1911. We are also discussing the possibility of having a Chamber of Commerce Day at the Farmers’ Market. More information will be coming soon!
